Peppers are coming in

Peppers are coming in!

With all the intermittent sprinkles and milder weather (you know it has been a long Summer when you start referring to the mid/upper 80’s as “milder”) we have gotten in some new plantings of arugula radishes and hakurei turnips that should be ready to harvest in a few weeks!
Nice to be on the other side of the heat. Lettuces will be restarting soon (lettuce seed will not germinate with temperatures averaging above 70 degrees, so we will have to start it in trays inside the air conditioned barn.)

In other news, there will be another distribution of watermelons soon, a family of groundhogs found our first planting and have done a serious amount of damage to many of the melons. We are going to attempt to set some catch traps out in the field to catch the culprits. The second succession should be ready soon though so just hold in there.

We said our farewells to our intern Jess this past weekend, she returns to college in a few days to pursue her study of specialty organic crops and we wish her the absolute best! She has been such a rock start this season and we hope she has a great semester.

Our little tractor is still out of commission, but the troops are persevering and keeping on top of things out in the field. We hope to have it back in working order soon and be able to get even more late Summer crops into the ground.

Stay well,

-The Marchese’s
